The Coventry branch of CCE was formed at St Brendan’s Club in 1971 by a number of Irish music enthusiasts Vincent Tighe, Bill Kennedy(R.I.P), Liam Holland, John Dillon, John Doherty and Jim Davoren.
Prior to the formation of the branch there was a competent ceili band who were awarded 2nd place at the 1972 Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann – behind the R.E.D ceili band from Co Leitrim. This was an excellent result for the newly formed branch.
To continue the success of the branch in 1988/9 Elaine o’Sullivan (nee Cummins) became All Ireland Concertina Champion and was placed 3rd in the Button Accordion competition (both at senior level).
After the closure of St. Brendans Club, we moved to the Four Provinces Club on the Allesley Old Road.
We currently meet at The Hearsall Inn, 45 Craven Street, Chapelfields, Coventry.
